In case you missed it, tonight was the Republican Party candidate's debate.
When asked whether or not he believes in evolution, Sen. John McCain answered:
"I believe in evolution. But I also believe, when I hike the Grand Canyon and see it at sunset, that the hand of God is there also."
Is it just me or is McCain's response a bit contradictory? Where I come from, the answer would be a simple "yes" or "no". I wouldn't be allowed to pick and choose which parts of the Bible I want to believe. But hey, that's just me.
I'm still pulling for Obama.

I agree with you. WTF! Can you share with me what evolution has to do with the grand canyon. Is that what the question was really aiming at?
Anonymous~obviously it's too difficult to commit to one perspective.
Nina, you hit the nail on the head with that one, becuase these candidates are so worried that they will lose votes in a particular sector, so they try to "straddle the fence!" From what I hear, (up until the Democratic Debates) Obama is the only one who has been REALL straightforward in his answers, AND has in essence, "aired his dirty laundry" BEFORE they ripped him to shreds with it. I can't attest to any of this, because I haven't tuned in as much as I should, but yeah...I think he may ulitimately have my vote too.
There is no black or white. I believe there is a "hand of God" while also thinking the evolutionists are closer to the truth of our beginnings. It's not about choosing which parts of the bible to believe, especially since the bible is not a universal textbook. It's about critical thinking and analysis based on scientific fact and spiritual intuition used for that which simply has no scientific explanation.
nina--did you hear that secret service have now been assigned to obama? no one is releasing any details about it, but it just happened yesterday. i have had this fear since i thought he might run. i hope it doesn't make him drop out of the race, but if there are credible threats on his life, it would certainly make he and his family have to do a lot of thinking. such a horrible situation.
Tera~he's definately on the fence with this one.
Fringes~I agree that the Bible is not universal and everyone has the right to critical thinking. I also understand that John McCain identifies himself as being an Episcopalian and therefore receives his word of God from the Bible which does not leave room for interpretation as far as evolution is concerned.
Nance~ I did know about Obama being placed under the watch of the Secret Service. Although it saddens me, I must say that I wasn't surprised. I really thought that it was only a matter of time before something of this nature would occur. It is awful!
Episcopalians are quite the free-thinkers. If Southern Baptists are on one end of the Bible-as-civil-law spectrum, Episcopalians are way on the other end.
I don't know about McCain, but not all Christians are creationists.
Where I live, we don't believe in evolution. Teachers can mention the word evolution if they preface it by saying "Evolution is just a theory and if y'all believe in it then y'all are making the Baby Jesus cry. Any evolutionists in my class had better hope that the Good Lord doesn't turn you into a monkey right here and now. Plus you will fail my class, any questions?"
Fringes~I have a hunch that you may believe in evolution? :)
Mist1~You are just too funny!
